How I help mentees
In my over 20 years banking career, I have seen how new hires struggle to make decisions whether to stay and build their career in banking or take to other perceived opportunities. Most times, they make fatal career mistakes by naively pursuing options they consider appropriate at the time only to realize in future that they were headed on the wrong path.
I took it upon myself to mentor and guide the young officers under my supervision on the benefits of building career in banking, being focused with clear plan for their career growth. I educate them on things like having growth mindset, professional etiquette and work culture, time management and productivity, goal setting and career mapping, effective communication & networking, etc. This has helped them tremendously to keep focused and maintain clarity on what to do to support their career growth while the organization benefit by maintaining low attrition rate. The mentees will benefit from similar guidance as they chart their career growth.
Key accomplishments
• I am a consummate Chartered Banker with over twenty years’ experience covering Corporate Banking, Commercial Banking, Risk Management, Business Banking and Retail Banking.
• I am currently a Group Head in charge of Consumer Banking, South-South 1 (Covering Rivers State, Cross Rivers State and Akwa Ibom State). I am a member of the Sustainable Finance Group (SFG) in Access Bank (A Team focused on developing and nurturing sustainability related businesses). Very passionate about climate preservation and sustainable best practices, I played a critical role in developing the Switch to Solar offering of Access Bank (lending product targeted at individuals and businesses desiring to energize their homes using solar power).
• I am skilled in business turnaround as well as delicately guiding challenged businesses through the recovery path.
• I hold a BSc in Political Science from the University of Jos, Postgraduate in Business Management from Federal University of Technology (FUTO), Owerri and currently completing my dissertation for an M.Sc. in Digital Business from Salford Business School (University of Salford), Manchester. UK. I have attended leadership trainings from prestigious institutions like National University of Singapore, Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania (USA) and Retail Banking Institute, Dublin.
