What our community
says about us

Hear from mentors and mentees whose careers were shaped through CIBN Mentoring.

"I was sceptical at first — I'd tried other mentoring programmes that felt generic. But this was different. My mentor had walked the exact same path I'm on. The sessions were structured, focused, and genuinely changed my career trajectory. I've already recommended it to three colleagues."

questions

Everything you need to know about the CIBN Mentoring Platform.

Is the platform free to use?
Registration and access to the platform is free for all active CIBN members. Some specialised trainings or group sessions organised and posted through the platform may carry a nominal fee, but 1:1 mentoring itself is offered at no charge.
Do I need an active CIBN membership?
While the platform is primarily for CIBN members, non-members who work in the Nigerian banking and financial services sector may register as mentees. However, only verified CIBN members can register as mentors.
Is mentoring participation tracked and evaluated?
The mentoring platform is digitalised along with global standards that allows for tracking of mentoring records of both the mentors and mentees sessions.
There are guides showing how to properly ensure engagement sessions are properly recorded and tracked.
What is the CIBN Mentoring Platform?
The CIBN Mentoring Platform is an official initiative of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), designed to connect experienced banking professionals with emerging talents. It provides a structured environment for knowledge transfer, career development, and professional growth within the Nigerian banking and finance sector.
Who can join as a mentee?
Any member of CIBN, at the early to mid-stage of their career, who is looking to grow under the guidance of a professional banking and finance expert.
Simply register, complete your profile, and browse available mentors under your selected disciplines.
How are mentors verified?
All mentors are verified CIBN members. Their membership ID, professional credentials, and employment history are cross-referenced with CIBN records before their profile goes live. You will see a "Verified" badge on all approved mentor profiles.
What is expected of a Mentor?
The roles of the Mentor to the mentee and the mentoring scheme are as follows:
1. Actionable coaching and discussions on the selected area of disciplines, for a time duration of 30-60mins atleast once a month.
2. Availability for advice, questions, discussions, and guidance within the stated engagement session times.
3. A stable point of contact you can depend on throughout working towards your professional journey and goals.
4. Share of professional experience
What you should not expect from mentors?
1. Payment and fee application; Mentors are professional guides, volunteering to share their expertise and experiences, therefore they are not to charge any fee.
2. A pre-built curriculum or examination set up.; The mentorship programme is personalized to the selected discipline and any additional areas of discussion on generic topics is optional to the parties involved. However, examinations or course loads are prohibited to avoid a professional and competency conflict with the Institute.
3. Physical Engagements; The sessions and engagement of the mentors and mentees is strictly virtual. This is to ensure accommodation of preferred timelines and availability of the mentors and mentees.
4. 24/7 availability and Instant replies; Mentors have their own jobs and commitments and may occasionally be slower to respond, be considerate to drop a message for them and engage.
What is not normal is being ignored or neglected. If there is no engagement after a follow up, kindly escalate to the admin.
What is the Duration of the mentorship scheme?
The CIBN Mentoring scheme has a yearly cohort that runs for 6-8months, inclusive of registration and engagement.
During the sign up for the scheme, members are encouraged to create, engage and be active in the sessions and after the period of a cohort, a graduation ceremony is organised.
